Friends of Scituate Dog Park is very excited to announce that we have made much progress in the past few months! Fundraising has been top priority for us as well as fine-tuning the physical plans for the Park. After many meetings with Sean McCarthy, Supervisor Scituate DPW, and Justin Lamoureux, Senior Engineer with the Horsley Witten Group, we are one giant step closer to reaching our goal of bringing a Dog Park to Scituate!

In order to break ground this spring, we have narrowed the scope of our initial project and will develop the Dog Park in two phases.

Phase I will create a one acre Dog Park that will be available for all dogs, big and small. We are on track to put Phase I out for public bid in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Phase II will provide for the addition of a smaller, half acre park that will be solely for small dogs.  Phase II will be developed when funds raised meet the additional expense.

Even with this two Phase approach, and the large amount of Grant funding we received from The Stanton Foundation and the Scituate CPC, we still need to raise additional funds to furnish the park with doggy water bubblers, benches, waste stations, and more. We will soon be launching a Fundraising Campaign that will offer individuals and local businesses opportunities to sponsor these necessary amenities for the park. If you would like to contribute to improving our town and making Scituate a more pet-friendly community, please contact us at scituatedogpark@gmail.com and one of our Executive Committee Members will be happy to contact you to discuss details.

Speaking of the Executive Committee, in December, terms for a few of our Members came to an end. The Board nominated and voted unanimously on our new Executive Committee which is comprised of Lisa Huffman (President), Susan Grondine Dauwer (Vice President), Daniel Joyce (Treasurer), and Kerry Tondorf (Secretary).

On behalf of the Executive Committee and the entire FOSDP Board, we’d like to, once again, acknowledge all of the local businesses and individuals who have made significant contributions to us over the past year….

Driftway Animal Hospital, The Village Market, Olympus Grille, Mill Wharf Marina, Donna’s Do Right Dogs, Arthur and Susan Dauwer, Elizabeth Wiza, Keith and Colleen Walo, Michelle Anne Murphy, Elaine Cole, and Nilah MacDonald. And to everyone else who has donated, purchased tickets to our Howl-ween Fundraiser, volunteered, etc., thank you for your continued support.  We couldn’t do this without you and are looking forward to sharing more good news in the coming months.  Be sure to follow us on Facebook and at www.scituatedogpark.com for the latest updates.  Until then, we anxiously await, along with our four-legged friends, to have our Happiness Unleashed.
